The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has urged consumers to use its toll-free numbers to report power outages. The helpline numbers 1912, 1800 233 3435, and 1800 212 3435 are available 24×7, and complaints registered through these numbers are promptly addressed by field staff.
MSEDCL has advised against calling linemen or senior officials directly, as they are often busy with restoration work. Engaging them on phone calls can delay their efforts and hinder the restoration process.
While lodging a complaint, consumers should mention their 12-digit consumer number, which is printed on the left side of the electricity bill. This number helps MSEDCL identify the location of the power outage.
Once the complaint is registered, it is automatically forwarded to the concerned sub-centre of MSEDCL, which then arranges a team to resolve the issue.
In addition to the toll-free numbers, consumers can also report power failures via SMS. To do so, they should give a missed call to 022-50897100, type “NOPOWER<12-digit consumer number>” and send it to 99303 99303.
MSEDCL services are also available online, and consumers are encouraged to download the official app from the Play Store or App Store for easier access and convenience.
MSEDCL serves around 3 crore consumers across Maharashtra, excluding Mumbai city. In the Nagpur Circle alone, there are about 18 lakh connections. Electricity reaches consumers through a complex network of underground and overhead cables, along with transformers, which are susceptible to technical issues.
At times, ongoing infrastructure work may damage underground cables, leading to power outages.
