A tragic incident took place in the Bhimnagar area of Nagpur, under MIDC Police Station limits, where a man allegedly strangled his estranged wife and tried to pass it off as a heart attack. The accused is currently on the run, and police have launched a search to find him.
The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Sheetal Johnson Mandpe. Her husband, 41-year-old Johnson Prahlad Mandpe, is the main accused. The couple had been living separately for the past seven years due to ongoing marital issues. They also have two children.
According to police sources, the incident took place on the night of May 21. The next morning, Johnson told neighbours and relatives that his wife had died of a heart attack. However, when Sheetal’s family arrived and noticed injury marks on her body, they became suspicious.
Her mother, Gautami Chauhan, immediately informed the police, suspecting foul play. Sheetal’s body was sent for a post-mortem, which confirmed that she had died due to strangulation and physical assault, ruling out a natural death.
As the investigation moved forward, Johnson fled his home reportedly three days after Sheetal’s death. Police teams have been sent to search for him at various suspected locations, but he is still on the run.
The shocking incident has caused anger and concern in the local community. Sheetal’s family is demanding quick justice. Police have registered a case of murder and assured that all efforts are being made to arrest the accused as soon as possible.
