Nagpur: In a case of opportunistic theft, unidentified miscreants made away with gold jewellery worth ₹3.17 lakh from a jeweller’s car in the Pratapnagar area on Thursday night.
The victim, Varun Prashant Dhomne (25), a resident of Pratapnagar and proprietor of Dhomne Jewellers near Padole Hospital Square, had placed a bag containing the ornaments in his car before stepping into a nearby shop for a quick snack. When he returned, the bag was missing.
The incident occurred in a matter of minutes and was reported to the Rana Pratapnagar Police Station. Based on Dhomne’s complaint, a case of theft has been registered.
Police have launched an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the culprits. Officials suspect the thief may have been keeping watch and acted when the opportunity arose.
The incident highlights the growing concern over thefts in busy localities and serves as a warning to business owners to remain vigilant, especially when transporting valuables.
