Rajeev Shukla is set to become the interim President of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) as the current President, Roger Binny, approaches the age limit for the role. Shukla, who is currently the vice president, will take charge for the next three months.
Roger Binny, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, will turn 70 on July 19, which exceeds the age limit for the BCCI President as per the board’s constitution. India Today has learned that Shukla will handle the President’s responsibilities until a new President is elected.
Roger Binny was elected BCCI President in 2022, succeeding Sourav Ganguly. The legendary seamer played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India, taking a total of 124 wickets. He was instrumental in India’s historic 1983 World Cup victory, finishing as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets in eight matches.
Rajeev Shukla, on the other hand, has been serving as the BCCI vice president since 2020. Prior to this, he was the Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017 and chaired the Indian Premier League (IPL) until 2018.
