In a shocking late-night burglary in central Nagpur’s Mahal area, thieves looted valuables worth ₹24.66 lakh from a businessman’s home while the family was away at a wedding in Amravati. In a twist, part of the break-in was caught on camera by a 16-year-old neighbour.
Teen’s Midnight Video Becomes Crucial Evidence in Nagpur Burglary Case
As the Jasani family attended a wedding in Amravati, burglars struck their locked home at Jalaram Niwas around 2:40 am on Sunday, stealing gold, diamond jewellery, luxury watches, and ₹5 lakh in cash—valuables meant for the celebration. Unbeknownst to them, a 16-year-old neighbour, casually on his terrace playing mobile games, spotted the suspicious activity and discreetly recorded the break-in on his phone. The teen remained quiet until the next morning, when news of the theft spread—then handed over the footage to his family, offering police a vital lead in the case.Investigators swiftly began analyzing CCTV footage and the teen’s recorded video, which revealed the number plate MH40/CA2140 of the car used in the burglary. The vehicle was soon traced back to an earlier theft in Saoner, where miscreants had broken into the home of Rishikesh Kashyap and fled with cash, jewellery, keys, and the car. That same night, the burglars also attempted to steal another car from a neighbour, though it went unnoticed until later. Based on tracking signals, police now believe the suspects may have fled via Kamptee Road toward Madhya Pradesh.
Wedding Joy Turns to Heartbreak for Jasani Family
The burglary has left the Jasani family devastated just hours before their daughter’s wedding. What was meant to be a day of celebration quickly turned into sorrow. A family member, visibly shaken, said, “We had just withdrawn cash and jewellery from the bank. This was supposed to be a happy day.” A case of housebreaking and theft has been filed at Kotwali Police Station, with several teams working to track down the suspects. Investigations are being carried out in coordination with Saoner Police, focusing on the stolen vehicle link and possible involvement of an inter-state criminal gang. Nagpur Police have urged residents to secure their homes and report any suspicious activity, especially during weddings or vacations. A senior officer praised the teenager’s brave act of recording the crime, saying, “The teen’s courage to record the incident gives us a solid lead. We are optimistic about cracking this case soon.”
