The Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee E-Library, operated by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in Lodhipura, has emerged as a crucial study hub for students preparing for various competitive exams, especially medical entrance tests such as MBBS, MD, and MS. The facility has now earned the title “Library of Doctors” due to its growing popularity among medical aspirants.
Launched in May 2022, the e-library has flourished under the leadership of NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, Additional Commissioner Vaishnavi B., and Education Officer Sadhana Sayam. In addition to medical aspirants, the library is extensively used by students preparing for UPSC, MPSC, CA, MBA, banking exams, and CET. Over the past two years, several users of the library have successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and other government job recruitments.
The library sees strong footfall from students of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Railway Hospital. Entry is granted based on students’ academic background and the exams they are preparing for. Notably, successful candidates are felicitated by the library staff.

Solar Energy Upgrade Planned
To promote sustainability and reduce electricity costs, the NMC plans to install a solar power system in the library in the near future.

Comprehensive Facilities Draw Students
The e-library offers a range of modern facilities, including:
- A quiet, air-conditioned study hall
- Elevator access
- Generator backup during power outages
- Fully equipped computer lab with internet
- Free Wi-Fi
- Dedicated resources for differently-abled students
- Canteen for meals
- Auditorium for lectures
- Spacious parking area

High Demand and Limited Seating
The library has a reading room that accommodates 30 students and a computer lab with 60 seats—comprising 15 general-use systems, 20 each for male and female students, and 5 for differently-abled users. Despite this setup, over 50 students remain on the waiting list each month. Students are charged a nominal fee of ₹1,000 per month, which covers access to reading spaces, internet, books, and magazines.
RFID-Based Book Security
To enhance security and prevent book theft, the library has implemented a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. This system ensures that books cannot be taken out without staff approval. Online registration helps track book circulation, informed Library In-Charge Mr. Ritesh Meshram.
With its growing impact and modern amenities, the NMC’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee E-Library continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of Nagpur’s aspiring professionals.
