In a significant initiative to promote historical tourism, the Maharashtra Government, in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has announced the launch of the Bharat Gaurav Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Heritage Tour. The special heritage train journey will commence on June 9 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai.
Spanning six days and five nights, the heritage tour will take travelers across key sites associated with the life and legacy of the Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The itinerary includes visits to Raigad Fort, Pune (Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganpati Temple, Shivsrushti), Shivneri Fort, Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, Pratapgarh Fort, and Kolhapur, where tourists will explore the Mahalakshmi Temple and Panhala Fort.
Operated by the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train, the service offers a capacity of approximately 700 passengers. Apart from CSMT, passengers can also board the train at Dadar and Thane stations.
On Day 1, the train will head to Mangaon Railway Station, the nearest stop to Raigad Fort — the historic site of Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation and former Maratha Empire capital. The journey will conclude in Kolhapur on Day 5, with significant sightseeing planned before returning to Mumbai on Day 6.
The package includes travel in Sleeper, AC 3-Tier, or AC 2-Tier classes, vegetarian meals (onboard and offboard), hotel stays, bus transfers for local sightseeing, monument entry fees, ropeway charges at Raigad, travel insurance, onboard security, and all applicable taxes.
Meanwhile, the Senior Citizen Cell of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has encouraged both senior citizens and youth to enroll for the tour. Interested individuals can register at the District Collectorate. For more information, they may contact the Senior Citizen Cell, informed Secretary Suresh Rewatkar.
