A Mumbai-based man allegedly lured a 47-year-old woman from Nagpur into a romantic relationship through Facebook, got engaged to her, and later sexually assaulted her. He also duped her and her brother of ₹12 lakh under the guise of stock market investments. When confronted about marriage, he reportedly refused and threatened to leak her private photos and videos. The incident was reported under the jurisdiction of Jaripatka police station.
The accused has been identified as Kalpesh Shashikant Kakkad (42), a resident of Vini Classic Apartment, Kandivali West, Mumbai. The two connected on Facebook, which led to frequent online conversations and eventually a romantic relationship. Kakkad claimed he wanted to marry her, and the pair got engaged.
In January 2024, Kakkad visited the woman’s home in Nagpur, where he allegedly spiked her soft drink with sedatives and sexually assaulted her. Later, he convinced her and her brother to invest ₹12 lakh in the stock market with promises of high returns. However, he failed to return either the capital or any profit.
When the woman followed up on his promise of marriage, the accused declined and allegedly issued threats to leak her personal photos and videos if she persisted.
Following her complaint, Jaripatka police registered an offence and apprehended Kakkad. Further investigation is ongoing.
