In a startling daylight robbery near Darodkar Square in Nagpur on Sunday, former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Girish Vyas was robbed of Rs 50,000 in cash by two unidentified criminals.
Police reports state that while Vyas was driving his car with his wife in the back seat, two men on foot flagged him down, alleging that his vehicle was leaking oil. Worried, Vyas stopped the car and got out to inspect underneath.
While Vyas was examining the car, one of the men suddenly sprayed a chemical substance near his eyes, causing temporary disorientation. Seizing the moment, the other miscreant quickly opened the car door and grabbed a bag containing Rs 50,000 in cash from inside the vehicle. Both then fled the scene without delay.
Vyas immediately informed the Lakadganj Police, who arrived quickly and started an initial investigation. Senior officials, along with Crime Branch officers, visited the site and began examining CCTV footage from nearby businesses to help identify the suspects.
Police have filed a case and launched a manhunt for the two suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident has sparked concerns about public safety and the increasing audacity of criminals who target high-profile individuals in crowded areas during daylight hours.
