Nagpur: A decomposed carcass of a tiger was discovered on Friday morning during a routine patrol by forest personnel in Compartment No. 275PF near Tower No. 08, in the Bandra Range under the Deolapar Wildlife and Territorial Forest Division. The discovery was made around 11:00 am, close to the forest boundary.
Following the sighting, forest officials conducted an inspection within a 2-kilometre radius of the site but did not find any evidence of illegal activity. As per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a post-mortem was conducted at the site. The examination was carried out in the presence of senior officials including Dr. Kishor Mankar, Field Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, Dr. Bharat Singh Hada, Deputy Conservator of Forest (Territorial) Nagpur, and P. Kodape, Divisional Vigilance Officer. Veterinary experts Dr. Babita Meshram, Dr. Rajesh Phulsange, and Dr. Mayank Barde performed the necropsy, while NTCA representative Anjinkya Bhatkar and Mandar Pingle from the office of the Chief Wildlife Warden also attended.
Officials confirmed that the tiger’s body was largely intact, with no missing teeth, claws, or body parts. Samples collected from the carcass have been sent for DNA testing, which will help determine the animal’s age and gender.
Further investigation into the cause of death is being carried out by Assistant Conservator of Forests, Ramtek, Pakhale. The case remains under the jurisdiction of the Nagpur Forest Division.
