In a move aimed at enhancing consumer convenience, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahavitaran) has integrated its billing system with the Government of India’s DigiLocker platform. Consumers can now access their electricity bills directly through the DigiLocker mobile app.
DigiLocker, a secure digital storage service under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Digital India initiative, allows users to store and access important documents such as Aadhaar cards, driving licenses, and educational certificates. With this latest integration, Mahavitaran has added electricity bills to the growing list of accessible documents on the platform.
Lokesh Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahavitaran, encouraged consumers to take advantage of the new feature, calling it a step towards simplifying bill management. The initiative follows recommendations by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to improve public-facing services and embrace digital solutions.
To use the service, consumers simply need to log into the DigiLocker app, select Mahavitaran as their electricity provider, and enter their customer number. This is a one-time setup. Once completed, the latest bill will automatically appear in the app each month, allowing users to view, download, print, or share it as needed.
DigiLocker currently has over 52.89 crore registered users and holds more than 859 crore digital documents. All files stored on the platform are considered legally valid and are treated on par with physical documents.
Mahavitaran has already made its billing data available on the platform, making electricity bill access more streamlined and paperless for millions of consumers across Maharashtra.
