Commissioner responds to public demand, issues directives
To provide sports facilities at the ground of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Barrister Sheshrao Wankhede Vidya Niketan (Mor Hindi School) in the Ramdaspeth area, Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari has directed that a proposal be prepared. As there is sufficient space available in the school premises, local residents had been demanding that essential sports infrastructure be developed there. Acting on this, the Commissioner visited the school premises on Friday, June 13 to inspect the site for the development of sports facilities by the NMC.
Present during the visit were Municipal Medical Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar, Dharampeth Zone Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Snehalata Kumbhar, Sports Officer Dr. Piyush Ambulkar, Executive Engineer Mr. Manoj Singh, Mr. Naresh Gadre, Deputy Education Officer Mr. Sanjay Dighore, Deputy Engineer Mr. Mokhade, and representatives from the HCL Foundation’s Science Center – Mr. Piyush Wankhede and Mr. Ajinkya Kulkarni – along with other officials and staff.

Barrister Sheshrao Wankhede Vidya Niketan (Mor Hindi School) has been non-operational for several years. Currently, the HCL Foundation runs a state-of-the-art Young Kalam Science Center in the building. One of the buildings is also being used by the Dharampeth Zone Office to store old educational materials, items from the COVID-19 period, and materials seized during anti-encroachment drives. Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Snehalata Kumbhar informed that a contractor has been appointed to dispose of the old materials, and the area will be cleared in the coming week.

The Commissioner first inspected the entire premises and immediately directed that the area be vacated. He also instructed Sports Officer Dr. Piyush Ambulkar to prepare a proposal for developing sports facilities. According to Dr. Ambulkar, the sports department plans to propose a skating rink, badminton court, and pickleball court on the ground. The Commissioner also directed that clean and proper restrooms be provided for the athletes.
