Letters of Intent were issued to five globally reputed universities for opening their campuses in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The LoIs were issued during a ceremonial event, ‘Mumbai Rising: Creating an International Education City’ held in Mumbai.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Indian students will not be required to go abroad for higher education. Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will be developed as the first educational hub. The LoIs were issued to five universities from the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States of America, and Italy.
The five universities invited to establish campuses include the University of Aberdeen, the University of York, the University of Western Australia, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the Istituto Europeo de Design (IED).
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, UGC Chairman Vinit Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary Asimkumar Gupta, Managing Director of CIDCO Vijay Singhal, British Ambassador, Consul General of Australia, America, Italy, and officials from the five universities were present.
