In a significant move to reduce traffic congestion and inculcate disciplined parking habits among citizens, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has marked 51 designated street parking zones on major roads across the city. White stripes have been painted to demarcate these parking spaces clearly. The initiative, implemented under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, has received a positive response from motorists.
Earlier, Dr. Chaudhari, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), conducted on-ground inspections at various locations to assess the city’s parking situation. Following this, he directed the marking of parking zones with white lines. Accordingly, a survey was conducted on 75 major roads, out of which 51 locations have now been finalized for street parking.
These designated spots will accommodate approximately 13,500 two-wheelers and 4,000 four-wheelers. Notably, angular lines have been marked for wider roads, while parallel lines have been used for narrower streets. The standard space allotted is 1×2.5 meters for two-wheelers and 5×2.5 meters for four-wheelers.
This step is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams caused by haphazardly parked vehicles. It will also help citizens develop the habit of parking only in designated areas. Additionally, with clearer roads, pedestrians will find it safer and easier to walk.
NMC has urged the public to make proper use of these parking zones and follow traffic rules to contribute to the city’s orderly development. This information was shared by Executive Engineer Mr. Ravindra Bundhade.
