The proposal to introduce two-wheeler taxis in cities with a population above one lakh has been approved. Objections to the proposal, if any, have been invited. The Maharashtra Government, on April 1, 2025, had decided to allow bike taxis. The government wanted an organisation to buy at least 50 two-wheelers, with rules to ensure women’s safety, equipment to save from rain, separation between the two travellers, etc. The suggestions were invited via all RTOs across the state.
The Transport Commission will soon submit a final draft with rules, etc, to the State Government for approval. The procedure is expected to be completed within a month.
Online taxi drivers and auto-rickshaw operators, and their organisations have objected to starting bike taxis. They also staged demonstrations against the proposal
