A video showing agitated SpiceJet passengers compelling a ground staffer to eat biryani—allegedly served after a prolonged flight delay—has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage online.
In the clip, the visibly upset passengers can be seen confronting the airline employee, insisting he taste the meal they claim was unfit for consumption.
SpiceJet has issued a response following the public backlash triggered by the video.
One of the passengers can be heard asking, “Hum kutte hai? Ye khana tu khaa ke dikha (Are we dogs? Eat this food in front of us).” The ground staffer obliged, only for the passengers to become even more furious when he claimed it tasted fine.
As the staffer attempted to walk away, the same passenger shouted, “Dimaag kharab mat kar, baith ja aaram se (Don’t mess with my head, sit down quietly),” making it clear the confrontation wasn’t over.
The incident reportedly took place over two weeks ago during a flight delay at Pune airport.
In response to the controversy, SpiceJet has broken its silence and come out in strong support of its staff member.
According to a media report, the airline said, “We strongly deny the claims being made in connection with the video in question. The food served was fresh and of good quality. It was sourced from an authorised vendor who supplies packaged meals to multiple airlines and the airport terminal.”
The airline also defended the conduct of its ground staff. “Our staff remained respectful and professional despite facing verbal abuse and unwarranted physical conduct. We condemn such behaviour and stand firmly by our employees,” it added.
While SpiceJet has termed the incident “unfortunate,” reactions on social media remain divided — with some users criticizing the airline over food quality, while others condemned the passengers’ actions as inappropriate and disrespectful.
