A 211-meter-long saree will be offered to the Wardha (Wardini) River in Kaundinyapur at 10 am on June 20. Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule will be the chief guest.
Kaundinyapur is the native place of the wife of Lord Krishna, Rukhmini, and Panchsati. The Amba Rukhmini Sanskrutik Mahotsav Samiti has organised the event, in which Shri Vitthal Rukhmini Rathyatra and other religious programmes will be held. A procession will be taken out across the town called ‘Vidarbha’s Pandhari’. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the event.
The place holds historical significance. It is the birthplace of Indumati, grandmother of Lord Rama; Bhimak Raja’s daughter Rukhmini, Nal Raja’s wife Keshini, Panchsati, and Shri Chauranginath of the Nath sect.
A traditional procession on foot from Kaundinyapur to Pandharpur is taken out every year. The tradition was started 431 years ago. This year, the procession was flagged off on May 31.
Wardha or Warda or Vashishtha River is considered a lifeline for farmers in the region, mainly because of the Upper Wardha and Lower Wardha dams. Mega religious programmes are held in Ashadi Ekadashi and Kartik Ekadashi, the two important days in the Hindu almanac.
