In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Kapil Nagar Police apprehended three suspected smugglers from Madhya Pradesh for possession of mephedrone (MD) powder and seized contraband and valuables worth over ₹10 lakh. The arrests were made on June 18, between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm, near the Power Grid Chowk–Gujjar Lawn road based on specific intelligence input.
The suspects were traveling in a white Hyundai i20 (MP 28 CB 5652) when police intercepted the vehicle. During interrogation, the trio identified themselves as Priyanshu Anil Shukla (23) of Khajeri, Ansh Birendra Puriya (22) of SR Tu Colony, and Abhishek Ashok Bhavarkar (25) of Chaman Mohalla, all from Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh.
A search conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of 4.25 grams of MD powder concealed in a zip-lock pouch, valued at ₹42,500. Along with the narcotics, police also seized the vehicle and four mobile phones, bringing the total seizure to ₹10,07,500. The accused were found in possession of the substance with the intention to sell for personal profit.
An FIR has been registered against them under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Kapil Nagar Police Station. All three have been arrested, and further investigation is underway under the supervision of senior officers including Additional CP Rajendra Dabhade, DCP Niketan Kadam (Zone 5), and ACP Satyavir Bandiwar (Jaripatka Division).
