Manjusha Dhanorkar and Suruchi Shahu are challenging stereotypes with every delivery they make. Differently abled yet unstoppable, they’ve carved a place for themselves as Zomato delivery partners, proving that determination knows no limits and dignity finds its own path.
According to a media report, Manjusha Dhanorkar, who lives in Chunabhatti, joined Zomato in February. A mother of two and a widow for the past two years, she previously earned a living by driving an e-rickshaw. “Since schools are shut for holidays, there’s no demand for my e-rickshaw services. That’s when Zomato offered me this opportunity,” she shared. With the help of a training program by ‘Youth for Jobs’, she gained the skills to handle deliveries and communicate with customers with confidence.
While some customers hesitate at first to walk up and collect their orders, Manjusha says most respond with empathy once they realise her situation. “It feels good when people look up to us. I earn better now — weekly payments are credited instantly, unlike my previous job where I had to wait till month-end,” she says, smiling. Her workday usually begins around 11 AM, though slot bookings open as early as 6 in the morning.
Suruchi Shahu, who lives near Ajni, holds a B.Com degree and joined Zomato earlier this year. “I used to earn about 10,000 doing home sewing. Now I earn more than that and I’m financially more inde-pendent,” she says. Not married yet, Suruchi embodies a calm but firm spirit. “Work is inevitable. One has to work to survive,” she adds.
Manjusha recalls a tough moment on the job: “Once, I couldn’t locate a customer’s address, and they weren’t picking up calls. I wandered for 20 minutes and had to take help from guards and locals.” Her only appeal is simple: “If someone could help us carry parcels up from restaurants, especially when there are stairs, it would ease our task.”
Both Manjusha and Suruchi express gratitude to Zomato for empowering them and to Lokmat Times for giving them a platform. Their determination stands as a powerful reminder that with some support and a strong will, no obstacle is too big. Their journey goes beyond delivering food — it’s about delivering hope, one parcel at a time.
