In response to the Government of Maharashtra’s initiative to prepare the Maharashtra Tourism Vision 2047 under the broader goal of Viksit Bharat, the President of Nagpur Residential Hotels Association (NRHA) Tejinder Singh Renu formally submitted its recommendations and vision document to Prashant Sawai, Deputy Director, Directorate of Tourism, Nagpur.
NRHA lauded the state’s consultative approach and emphasized that Maharashtra despite its rich diversity of heritage, spiritual, coastal, hill station, and wildlife destinations continues to underperform compared to states like Rajasthan, Kerala, and Goa due to a lack of integrated strategy and slow policy execution.
A key concern raised by NRHA is the delayed and fragmented implementation of the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, which was expected to transform the tourism sector through capital subsidies, infrastructure status, PPP promotion, and single-window clearances. The Association warned that if the policy is not implemented in letter and spirit especially with active coordination from departments like Revenue and Urban Development Maharashtra risks losing investor confidence and competitive edge to other states aggressively promoting tourism investments.
“The 2024 Tourism Policy had the vision to attract ₹25,000+ crore in investments and create over 10 lakh jobs. But unless it is genuinely enforced across departments and districts, it remains only on paper,” said Tejinder Singh Renu, President of NRHA. The Association also called for the formation of stakeholder committees promised in the policy and recommended the inclusion of hotel renovation incentives to support existing hospitality infrastructure.
Among NRHA’s major proposals are, officially declaring Nagpur as the “Tiger Capital of India” and boosting high-end jungle tourism experiences in Tadoba and surrounding reserves, legalizing terrace restaurants and cafes under appropriate safety norms to enhance tourist engagement, launching a “Maha Tourism Super App” for smart, tech-driven tourism services, removing the MERC stay on industrial electricity tariff benefits for hotels promised in 2020, accelerating formation of District Tourism Promotion Committees (DTPCs) and making the single-window clearance system operational.
To track progress, NRHA recommended key performance metrics such as tourist footfall, tourism revenue, employment generation, average length of stay, and hotel occupancy rates. With decisive execution of policies and collaborative governance, NRHA believes Maharashtra can emerge as a top-3 tourism destination in India over the next decade, contributing significantly to employment, rural upliftment, and GDP growth.
Deputy Director Prashant Sawai appreciated the efforts of NRHA for submitting a detailed memorandum which will definitely contribute in preparing an effective vision document for Viksit Bharat 2047. Also present in the NRHA delegation were Deepak Khurana – Secretary, Vinod Joshi – Treasurer, Nitin Trivedi – Joint Secretary and Executive Body Member Nitin Mehta.
