Nagpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday, citing favourable monsoon conditions across the region.
A yellow alert has been issued for all districts in Vidarbha, with the IMD warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated locations in Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal over the next 48 hours.
According to a press release, the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) currently extends through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Sonbhadra, and Gaya. Meteorological observations indicate a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, along with associated cyclonic circulation up to 7.6 km above sea level. Additional cyclonic activity is reported over northeast Rajasthan, with a trough extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to northeast Gujarat.
Rainfall activity was observed across Vidarbha on Thursday. Brahmapuri recorded the highest rainfall at 12.4 mm, followed by Amravati (9 mm), Buldhana (8 mm), Akola (5.1 mm), Wardha (4 mm), Chandrapur and Gadchiroli (1 mm each), and Nagpur (0.8 mm).
The cloudy conditions led to a notable dip in day temperatures. Nagpur saw a drop of 2.8°C in maximum temperature within 24 hours. Buldhana recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 28.7°C, while both Buldhana and Yavatmal witnessed the steepest temperature decline—4.7°C—during the same period.
