Continuing its crackdown on the drug network under ‘Operation Thunder’, the Imamwada Police on Saturday apprehended four individuals for possessing 239.660 grams of MD (mephedrone) powder, valued at ₹11.95 lakh.
The action also led to the seizure of a vehicle and mobile phones, taking the total value of confiscated items to ₹18.65 lakh.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police laid a trap on the stretch between TB Ward Square and Jattarodi Square on June 21, between 12:35 pm and 2:40 pm. A white Maruti Swift car (registration number MH 49 BB 0613) was intercepted based on inputs that it was being used to transport narcotics.
Four men were found inside the vehicle and identified as Nilsh Laxmanrao Deshmukh (34), resident of Siraspeth, Teli Pura, Imamwada, Pranay alias Sumit Gopalrao Gaydhane (31), resident of Siraspeth, Imamwada, Ashish Prakash Madavi (31), residing near NIT Garden, Siraspeth, Imamwada and Shubham alias Bhurya Rajesh Tidke (30), resident of Quarter No. 91/2, Somwari Quarters, Tukkar Chowk, Sakkardara.
A search of the vehicle in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 239.660 grams of MD powder kept in a ziplock pouch in the front drawer of the car. Along with the drugs, police seized four mobile phones and the car used in the crime.
The estimated value of seized materials is as follows: MD powder: ₹11,95,000
Mobile phones and vehicle: ₹6,70,790
Total seizure value: ₹18,65,790
The accused reportedly intended to sell the drugs for monetary gain. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Imamwada Police Station. All four accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
This successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (South) Shivajirao Rathod, DCP (Zone 4) Rashmita Rao, and ACP (Sakkardara Division) Narendra Hivare.
The team comprised PI Rahul Shire, PSI Ganesh Khandate, API Ganesh Pawar, and police staffers Sandeep Borsare, Virendra Gulrandhe, Ganesh Bubulkar, Bhagwatikumar Thakur, Chandrashekhar Dekate, Jitendra Chaudhary, Ranjit Sakkarwar, Kunal Uike, and Himanshu.
