A prayer meeting was held in Nagpur on Saturday to honour the memory of Yasha Kamdar, her two-year-old son Rudra, and mother-in-law Raksha Modha, who tragically lost their lives in the Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. The tribute took place at Nivedyam Estoria on Kalamna Road and was attended by relatives, community members, and political leaders.
The ceremony was organised by the Kamdar family to pray for the peace of the departed souls. Among the attendees were MLA Krishna Khopade, BJP leader Jayprakash Gupta, Vipul Kothari (President, Saurashtra Dasha Shrimali Vanik Sangh), Jitesh Godha, Vipin Kamdar, Jinendra Badani, and Mitesh Rupani. Representatives from Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Sangh, including Bharat Batavia, Nitin Khara, Rajendra Kamdar, Dilip Kamdar, Mayur Khara, and Pankaj Bakhai also paid homage. Yasha’s grieving parents, Manish and Beena Kamdar, and her brother Kashish Kamdar were present along with other close family members.
Kamdar Family Among Victims of National Tragedy
Yasha Kamdar, a native of Queta Colony in Nagpur, was travelling with her son and mother-in-law to London to attend a condolence function. All three were on board Air India Flight AI171, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport, slamming into a hostel building of BJ Medical College in Meghani Nagar.
The crash killed 241 people onboard, leaving only one survivor, while at least 39 others died on the ground, taking the total death toll to over 280. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plunged to the ground within 36 seconds of takeoff after issuing a Mayday call, according to preliminary reports.
DNA Matching and Probe Underway
Authorities have identified over 230 victims through DNA testing and handed over more than 210 bodies to their families. Among the deceased was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, whose identity was confirmed via forensic tests.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the cause of the crash. Teams from DGCA, NDRF, CISF, and local agencies were deployed for rescue and recovery operations.
Allegations of Bribery
Yasha’s father, Manish Kamdar, alleged that airport immigration staff had delayed their boarding at Ahmedabad and even demanded a bribe of £1,000 to allow infant Rudra to travel. Tragically, all three family members perished in the crash before any intervention could be made. The family is expected to file a formal complaint with higher authorities.
