Nagpur: Tension gripped the Kalamna Grain Market area late Saturday, June 21, night after a 31-year-old man was stabbed to death following a heated argument. The deceased, identified as Ravi Poonaram Waghmare, was attacked with a knife allegedly by a man named Kishor Thakre, who fled the scene after the assault.
The incident occurred around 9:48 pm on June 21, near Shed No. 12 on the cement road inside the Kalamna Grain Market, about one kilometre from the Kalamna Police Station. The police were alerted shortly after 10:00 pm, and a case was officially registered in the early hours of June 22.
The FIR was filed by Ravi’s elder brother, Deorao Poonaram Waghmare (35), a welder residing in Chikhli Devasthan, near Nagoba Mandir in Kalamna. Deorao told police that while he was at home, he received a distress call from Ravi stating that he was being attacked with a knife by the accused in the grain market. Deorao rushed to the location and found his brother lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
Ravi’s friend, Nasir, who was reportedly present at the time, informed the complainant that the altercation began when Ravi confronted Kishor for loitering at the market. The argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, Kishor allegedly pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Ravi.
Following the complaint, Kalamna Police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Crime No. 513/2025. The accused is currently absconding, and the murder weapon has not yet been recovered.
Senior police officials including DCP Zone 5 Niketan Kadam, ACP Vishal Kshirsagar (Kamthi Division), Senior Inspector Pravin Kale (Kalamna Police Station), and Inspector Sandeep Bua (Crime Branch Unit 5) visited the crime scene as investigations began.
The case is being investigated by Police Sub-Inspector Ajay Garje, who is also the registering officer. While the area remains peaceful, a manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the accused.
Police urge anyone with information about the accused’s whereabouts to come forward, as efforts to bring him to justice continue.
