A woman undergoing post-delivery treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) lost her life after she accidentally slipped and fell into a water tank located inside the women’s restroom of Ward No. 33. The tragic incident, occurring within a prominent state-run hospital, has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about the safety measures and sanitation standards in the facility.
According to a media report, the woman, who had recently delivered a baby, was admitted to Ward No. 33 for postnatal care. On the morning of Tuesday, June 17, at around 9:30 am, she went to the women’s restroom where she reportedly slipped and fell into an uncovered water tank located inside the facility. A fellow patient who entered the restroom shortly after found her in the tank and quickly raised an alarm.
Hospital staff and doctors rushed to the spot and provided initial treatment before shifting the injured woman to the ICU. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, June 21, while undergoing treatment. Ajni police have registered a case of accidental death.
The incident has sparked public outrage and raised several pressing questions: Why was a water tank kept inside an operational restroom? Why were safety measures not ensured? And most importantly, how could such a serious lapse occur in a government-run hospital?
