Futala Lake, once a lively and scenic spot for evening outings in Nagpur, is now struggling to retain its charm. The once-vibrant destination is facing dual setbacks, halted development work and worsening conditions of existing infrastructure.
The ambitious musical fountain, constructed at a high cost by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), now lies idle. It was meant to be a major attraction, but since the Supreme Court ordered a stay on construction at the lake premises, the fountain has not been operational.
Without maintenance or momentum, the area is steadily declining. Many city residents are left disappointed, wondering when Futala Lake will see meaningful revival and when the silent fountain will dance to music once again.
Once a peaceful spot to enjoy lake views, the gallery built by Maha Metro now stands in neglect. What began with much fanfare is now marked by faded walls, scattered trash, and visible cracks. With no upkeep in place, the once-inviting space has lost its charm.
At several stretches around Futala Lake, collapsed walls and makeshift barricades fail to keep people out. Despite the risks, visitors continue to access restricted spots.
Aiming to reduce traffic chaos near Futala Lake, Maha Metro started work on a multi-level parking plaza along the main road. Planned for both two- and four-wheelers, construction had reached an advanced stage before everything came to a halt. Now, the half-finished structure sits idle, offering neither relief nor utility.
