Maharashtra Power Generation Company, Mahagenco, will erect a solar power generation plant with a capacity to generate 1,071 MW, to support the sustainable development of the state. The plant will be a part of the Chief Minister Solar Energy Project 2.0. The project will benefit about three lakh farmers, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and will improve their economic condition via uninterrupted power supply for irrigation.
Mahagenco, with the capacity to generate 13,880 MW, is the state-controlled biggest power generating company. It is the second largest company, next to the National Thermal Power Company (NTPC). The solar project aims to reduce carbon emissions and supply power at a cheaper rate to the consumers, Fadnavis said.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) India is providing a Project Monitoring Unit for the effective implementation of the project. The Chief Minister Solar Energy Project 2.0 will be supported through technical support from GEAPP India.
