Nagpur: In an effort to enhance the safety of schoolchildren, the Nagpur City Traffic Police carried out a special enforcement drive on Tuesday, targeting school buses, vans, and auto-rickshaws flouting traffic norms. The operation focused on violations such as drivers not wearing uniforms or seat belts, overloading students, ignoring traffic signals, and breaching other provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The drive resulted in action against 161 school vehicles, including 106 school buses, 26 vans, and 29 auto-rickshaws. Among the city’s traffic divisions, Lakadganj recorded the highest number of violations with 43 vehicles, followed by Indora (25) and Ajni (23). Other areas such as MIDC (20), Sadar (18), and Sonegaon (11) also saw notable enforcement activity. Even divisions like Sitabuldi and Kamptee, though with fewer violations, were included in the crackdown.
Authorities have confirmed that this campaign is not a one-day initiative and will continue in the coming weeks with intensified action against school vehicle drivers who fail to comply with safety norms. The move is part of a broader initiative to promote responsible driving and ensure secure travel for students.
The traffic department has urged all school vehicle operators to follow the rules and cooperate with enforcement personnel. Police have emphasized that the safety of children must be the top priority and warned that stricter penalties will be imposed on repeated violators.
