A grand Rath Yatra on Lord Jagannath will be taken out by The Odia Samaj on June 27 from Shri jagannath Mandir (Shri Jagannath Cultural Complex), Kukade Layout, Babulk-heda, Rameshwari road, at 11 am with religious fervour and great enthusiasm. This is for the first time that the shobha yatra is being taken out on the decorated wooden chariot as is done in Jagannath Puri.
The artists from Odisha ex-clusively crafted the chariot in the traditional Puri Rath style. Now, the work of as-sembling the chariot is going on here for preparation of the proposed Rath Yatra on June 27. The samaj used the chariot made by iron for taking out the Rath Yatra previously but now this is for the first time the organisers are using fully wooden chariot. The design of this chariot is same to that of Jagannath Puri but the dif-
ference is that this chariot is smaller in height. It will pro-ceed on a grand city proces-sion.
This was stated by the gen-eral secretary of The Odia Samaj, Ganesh Das, while ad-dressing a press conference at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan here on Monday. He said that the idols of Lord Jagannath along with his elder brother Lord Balabhadra, sister Devi Sub-hadra and Sudardshan would be mounted on the decorated chariot. The Rath Yatra would begin after performing pooja/aarti at the hands of the guests, he said.
The Rath Yatra will pass through Tukdoji Statue, nearby localities and reach back to the mandir. It will con-sist of devotees, bhajan, kirtan parties, ISKCON mandalis and others. The samaj has invited people from all communities across the city to come to-gether and be part of this di-vine and culturally rich cele-bration, Das said.
The religious programmes will begin from June 26 to July 8. They include: Nava Youvana Darshan, Hera Panchami, Bha-jan sandhya, Bahua Yatra, Golden Attire with Shrimant Mudhoji Raje Bhonsle as chief guest, Niladri Bije, distribution of mahaprasad to 5,000 devo-tees daily plus cultural pro-grammes. Odia Samaj was es-tablished in the city in 1977 and it represents 5,000 Odias here. It has been consistently celebrating all major Odia fes-tivals, promoting the divine culture of Lord Jagannath and preserving the rich heritage of Odisha.
President Bhawani Prasad Mishra, Prabhat Kumar Barik, Akshay Nayak and Chinmay Patra were present at the press conference.
Odia Samaj, established in the city in 1977, will organised religious programmes from June 26 to July 8
