After over a decade of delay and temporary patchwork, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finally delivered a much-needed fire safety upgrade for North Nagpur. The newly constructed G+5 Fire Station in Panchpaoli—long overdue since the old building was declared unsafe in 2011—was recently inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
Earlier operating from Sugat Nagar in makeshift conditions, the department can now breathe easy with a modern, fully-equipped fire facility under the leadership of Chief Fire Officer Tushar Barahate and guidance from Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari.
The ₹13-crore master plan includes 22 fire stations across the city, and Panchpaoli is among the first to come through. Spanning 3,078 sq. m., the new station includes two wings, 35 staff quarters (including officers’ housing), three 25,000-litre water tanks, underground parking, and lifts in both wings.
Strategically located, this station will now ensure swift emergency response to high-density areas such as Buddha Nagar, Mominpura, Lashkaribagh, Timki, Dhobinagar, Thakkar Gram, and more.
Equipped to handle two fire tenders and two mini water tenders, the station features dedicated control rooms, male and female staff zones, and storage—finally matching the city’s rising fire safety demands.
Personnel have already taken charge, but the message is clear: this could’ve come years earlier. Nonetheless, North Nagpur is finally fire-ready—and watching closely if the other 21 stations will follow anytime soon.
