In a dramatic turn of events near the Ganga-Jamuna area under Lakadganj Police jurisdiction, two bike-borne assailants allegedly confronted a man with a false ganja-selling accusation and then robbed him at knifepoint. Swift investigation by Crime Branch Unit 3 led to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of stolen property worth ₹1.06 lakh.
The incident took place around 11:40 pm on June 22, when complainant Ramesh Vishnu Devangan (34), a resident of Plot No. 59, Kawarapeth, Nagpur, was returning from a financial recovery task. He was accompanied by his friend Sachin Rathod (37), a resident of Mhalgi Nagar, and was carrying ₹55,000 in his Hyundai car (MH 49 CL 6463).
As they halted near the road leading to Balaji Mandir in Ganga-Jamuna, two unknown individuals on an Activa scooter approached Devangan. One of the suspects allegedly said, “Tu ganja supply karta hai kya? Tujhe andar karwa dunga” (Do you supply ganja? I’ll have you arrested). The accused then pulled out a knife, threatened him, and forcibly snatched ₹4,500 in cash before fleeing.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at Lakadganj Police Station under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, a parallel investigation was launched by Crime Branch Unit 3. Acting on technical leads and local intelligence, the team laid a trap and apprehended the two accused — Himanshu Namdev Chinchulkar (25), resident of Om Nagar, Bharatwada Road, Kalamna, and Faizan Anwar Shaikh (24), resident of Ganga-Jamuna, Cement Road, Lakadganj.
During interrogation, both confessed to their involvement in the robbery. Police recovered the Activa scooter (MH 49 CA 8067) used in the crime, valued at ₹1 lakh, along with ₹6,000 in cash — bringing the total seizure to ₹1.06 lakh.
