Maharashtra Cabinet has approved Rs 20,787 crore for the Paonar (Wardha) to Patradevi (Sindhudurg) Shaktipeeth Expressway connecting Maharashtra’s Eastern part to the Goa border in the West. The Expressway connecting 12 districts in Maharashtra will be of 802.529 km.
The Shaktipeeth Expressway will pass through Wardha, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg districts and then will be connected to the Konkan Expressway at the Goa-Maharashtra border. The religious places, Mahur, Tuljapur, Kolhapur, and Ambejogai, will be connected through this Expressway and therefore has been named Shaktipeeth Mahamarg. It will also connect Aundhanagnath and Parali Vaijnath Jyotirling, Pandharpur, Karanja Lad, Akkalkot, Gangapur, Narsobachi Wadi, and Audumbar. Because of the Expressway Nagpur to Goa will be reduced to eight hours from 18 hours.
HUDCO has sanctioned a Rs 12,000 loan for acquiring land for the Expressway. About 7,500 hectares of land are being acquired for the Expressway being constructed through MSRDC. Besides connecting the religious places, the Expressway will help in improving the connectivity of villages andthe economy of farmers.
