Nagpur: Passport applicants across Vidarbha are facing severe inconvenience as appointments at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Mankapur, Nagpur, and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) continue to be abruptly cancelled—often just a day in advance. For the past six days, cancellations have become routine, with several applicants receiving notification messages late the previous night, leaving them with little time to react.
On Tuesday as well, a large number of appointments were cancelled, adding to the growing frustration of those relying on timely passport services. The Nagpur PSK operates under the Regional Passport Office and serves as the primary centre for Tatkal (urgent) passport processing, while 10 POPSKs function in districts including Gondia, Chandrapur, Akola, Washim, and Buldhana.
Due to extended waiting periods for regular appointments, many applicants prefer the Tatkal service, which typically promises faster turnaround. However, even Tatkal slots are now being issued after a delay of five days. The problem has been compounded by disruptions in the system managed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), forcing applicants to repeatedly reschedule and, in many cases, postpone travel plans.
The Mankapur PSK processes around 450 appointments daily, while the 10 POPSKs collectively handle about 500. Officials have yet to provide a clear explanation for the ongoing cancellations or offer a timeline for restoration of regular services.
