Passengers on IndiGo Airlines flight 6E 5147 faced serious inconvenience at Nagpur Airport on June 25 after being made to travel in an old, leaking bus during heavy rain. According to a media report, although the flight landed safely, passengers were not provided an aerobridge and were instead taken to the terminal in a poorly maintained airport bus.
By the time they reached the terminal, many were soaked. Videos of the incident, now viral on social media, show passengers—including women, children, and senior citizens—running through the rain and dealing with water leaking inside the bus.
Adding to the controversy, Maharashtra Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal and Saoner MLA Ashish Deshmukh were also on board the flight. Both leaders voiced strong dissatisfaction over the incident and openly criticised the inadequate arrangements during media interactions.
“It is extremely dangerous and utterly humiliating for passengers to be subjected to such conditions,” remarked Minister Jaiswal, demanding accountability from the airport authorities.
Passengers questioned why the aerobridge was not used despite prior warnings of heavy rain, calling it a major lapse in providing basic amenities.
Reports of poor infrastructure and mismanagement at Nagpur Airport have surfaced in the past, but little action appears to have been taken.
The incident has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with both IndiGo Airlines and Nagpur Airport authorities facing backlash from the public.
Passenger associations have called for a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible for the incident. They also urged authorities to improve emergency planning, especially during the monsoon, to prevent similar situations in the future.
Experts have pointed out that using leaking buses for passenger transport is not only uncomfortable but also poses serious health and safety risks.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the readiness and service standards of both Nagpur Airport and IndiGo Airlines. Meanwhile, public anger continues to grow online, with citizens and passenger groups demanding accountability and urgent corrective measures.
