Nagpur: In a move aimed at making public transport more accessible for students, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has launched a school-based distribution drive for ST bus passes under the campaign ‘ST Bus Pass Thet Tumchya Shalet’ (ST Bus Pass Right at Your School). The initiative eliminates the need for students to visit the ST Pass Control Office, as passes are now being delivered directly at educational institutions.
Launched on June 23, 2025, following directives from Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, the campaign facilitates on-site issuance of passes to students. Under the Ahilyabai Holkar scheme, girls from Classes 5 to 12 are entitled to completely free bus passes, while boys receive a 66.66% concession, paying just 33.33% of the monthly fare.
In the Nagpur division, MSRTC depots have mobilized staff to visit schools and colleges for distributing the passes. Institutions that have already benefited from the initiative include Nehru School and Junior College, Hingna; Gopikisan Bang College, Deoli-Pendhari; Shriram School, Ramtek; Nabira Junior College, Katol; Municipal School, Kalmeshwar; Ashok School, Umred; and Janata Junior College, Mauda.
On Wednesday, Divisional Transport Officer Ranju Ghodmare, along with Transport Controller Ganveer, personally visited Nehru School and Junior College in Hingna and handed over free passes to 58 girl students under the Ahilyabai Holkar scheme.Tools
