Heavy rains lashed Nagpur on Wednesday night, leaving major roads, flyovers, and several low-lying areas waterlogged, causing significant inconvenience to commuters across the city. The downpour, which began in the evening after a cloudy day, intensified late at night with thunderstorms, leading to traffic congestion and widespread flooding.
Residents reported severe waterlogging in various low-lying areas and neighborhoods, where drains overflowed and rainwater entered residential lanes. Simultaneously, commuters were seen struggling through submerged roads in key parts of the city. Many two-wheelers broke down, and traffic slowed to a crawl as drivers navigated flooded intersections and slippery streets.
Despite repeated claims of monsoon readiness, the situation once again highlighted the inadequate drainage infrastructure and poor disaster preparedness of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Citizens expressed anger and frustration over the civic body’s failure to prevent predictable flooding, especially in vulnerable zones.
Images and videos of inundated roads and stranded commuters circulated widely on social media, with residents demanding immediate action from authorities to improve drainage and deploy emergency response teams.
As the monsoon continues to intensify, civic authorities now face growing pressure to act swiftly and implement long-overdue flood control measures to safeguard public movement and property.
