A 44-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a speeding school van near the Amravati-Nagpur Highway on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. within the Wadi police station limits.
The deceased, identified as Mahendra Gajanan Vaidya, was a resident of Wadi and employed at a private firm, Exxon. According to police reports, Mahendra was walking alongside the highway near a solar company when a school van (registration number MH 31 DS 5615) allegedly hit him at high speed.
Eyewitnesses stated that the van driver was driving recklessly and lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal collision. Mahendra sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Hemraj Gajanan Vaidya (46), a resident of Nandanvan Slum in Wadi, an offence under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against the van driver.
Wadi police have initiated an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness statements to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
