The nominations for the preliminary round of the 61st Maharashtra State Marathi Film Awards have been announced by Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, along with the winners in the technical and child artist categories. Among the ten films selected for the final round is Terav, a production from Vidarbha. Directed by Harish Ithape and produced by Narendra Jichkar under the Vidarbha-based Anjanikripa Production banner, Terav has earned six major nominations.
Shot entirely in Vidarbha, Terav features a cast largely drawn from the region. The film portrays the emotional and social struggle of a woman left to fend for herself after her farmer husband dies by suicide. The story follows Janabai, who, abandoned by both her in-laws and her own family, rises to become the pillar of her household. Determined to bring change, she forms a self-help group to empower other widows facing similar hardships.
The film Terav has earned nominations in six key categories — Best Film, Best Debut Director (Harish Ithape), Best Background Score (Virendra Latankar), Best Actress (Kiran Khoje), Best Music Director (Virendra Latankar), and Best Screenplay (Shyam Pethkar). Except for Kiran Khoje, all the nominees are from the Vidarbha region. A total of 49 entries were received for the preliminary round. The other films selected for the final round include Atmapamphlet, Gypsy, Naal 2, Raundal, Jaggu Ani Juliet, Bhera, Aasha, Jhimma 2, and Alibaba Ani Chaalishitle Chor.
Vikas Kharage, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, and Swati Mhase Patil, Managing Director of Dadasaheb Phalke Film City, extended their congratulations to all the nominees.
