Nagpur: A major construction accident occurred at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s B Park project site near Wednesday Bazaar, Mahal, after a section of the outer retaining wall (pile) collapsed on Saturday morning. The mishap left three construction workers injured and two Poklain machines buried under the debris.
The incident happened around 9:30 AM on June 28, at the site located opposite Kotwali Police Station, where multi-storey construction is underway. According to initial reports, the outer pile wall gave way during soil excavation, triggering a landslide that toppled heavy machinery and injured workers. The injured – Ajit Parmanik (26), Manish Nageshwar (26), and Chintu Kumar (33) – were rushed to Mayo Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Concerns have been raised about the structural safety of nearby residential houses and commercial buildings, including Chawla Stores and Vandana Enterprises, which are located adjacent to the collapsed pile. Authorities have issued evacuation notices and shifted residents as a precautionary measure.
Locals have criticised the civic body and contractor for neglecting safety protocols at the high-risk construction site.
This incident has once again spotlighted the urgent need for strict construction safety standards at municipal project sites in Nagpur
