In an appalling breach of security at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), a thief brazenly entered Ward No. 6 on Saturday morning, looted a purse and mobile phones, and walked out unnoticed — right under the hospital’s nose.
Around 9:00 AM, during doctor rounds and routine cleaning, when relatives were asked to vacate the ward, the thief — wearing a white printed shirt, light green cap, and blue mask — casually slipped in.
Kunda Murkute, a patient on bed 26, found her purse missing. Her son, Chetan Murkute, found it dumped in a toilet — documents scattered, ₹5,200 cash gone. Soon, it was revealed that three more mobile phones were stolen during the same time.
CCTV footage later showed the suspect moving through the ward and exiting the washroom — proof of how easy it is to exploit GMCH’s non-existent security.
A Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) was filed at Ajni Police Station under BNSS Section 303(2). But the bigger question remains: Why does GMCH have zero ward surveillance during such predictable windows of vulnerability?
Chetan Murkute has demanded CCTV installation in all wards and strict access control, especially during cleaning and medical rounds.
This is not the first time — and if GMCH doesn’t wake up, it won’t be the last. Patients deserve care, not fear. And clearly, GMCH’s current security measures are a complete failure.
