A massive tree came crashing down on a parked Maruti Ritz in Bajiprabhu Nagar near Ramnagar on Saturday afternoon, exposing once again the dangerous neglect of roadside tree maintenance by civic authorities.
The incident, reported around 4 PM, saw Mohit Vijay Ghatole’s car (MH31CR7548) completely damaged after the tree collapsed near Sufia Masjid on Ring Road, just meters from a religious gathering. Thankfully, no lives were lost — but only by sheer luck. Had the tree fallen seconds earlier on the busy road, the outcome could’ve been tragic.
The Trimurti Nagar Fire Station responded promptly, cut through the wreckage, and cleared the site. Their report attributes the collapse to weakened roots, worsened by weather — a predictable risk that officials should’ve acted on long ago.
The car’s damage is officially pegged at ₹25,000, but the real loss may be higher. “Will NMC take responsibility or just shrug it off again?” asked one bystander.
The incident has reignited demands for an immediate audit of aging and unstable trees, especially in congested residential zones. With monsoon in full swing, such threats are everywhere — yet Nagpur’s civic body continues to snooze.
Residents are now demanding preventive action, not apologies after disasters. How many cars must be crushed, or worse — how many lives lost — before someone is held accountable?
