The School of Experiential Learning and Simulation Centre (SEL&SC) at Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education & Research( DU) (DMIHER), in collaboration with Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre (SMHRC) and the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), Nagpur Branch, organized a Basic Point of Care Ultrasonography (POCUS) Workshop on 25th May 2025 at the DMMC campus, Wanadongri, Nagpur.

This hands-on workshop was specifically designed for postgraduate students, with the aim of strengthening bedside diagnostic skills and improving clinical decision-making in real time using ultrasonography. Over 50 postgraduate students from DMMC, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), and NKPSIMS participated in the event.
The workshop covered essential modules such as Basics of Ultrasonography, Lung POCUS, Cardiac POCUS, Airway Ultrasound, FAST & eFAST, Central Venous Cannulation, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) screening, and trauma ultrasound protocols. Participants were provided practical exposure through live demonstrations, supervised scanning sessions, and interactive discussions.
The academic sessions were led by a distinguished faculty panel including Dr. Shahnawaz Siddique, Dr. Rahul Hiwanj, Dr. Paras Zunke, Dr. Pallavi Meshram, Dr. Rashmi Agrawal, and Dr. Chowksey, whose clinical expertise added significant value to the training. Students found the workshop highly enriching, and the faculty commended the infrastructure, smooth organization, and enthusiasm displayed by the attendees.
Dr. Anjali Borkar, HoD – Anaesthesia, remarked that POCUS has become an indispensable part of modern clinical practice, especially in anaesthesia and critical care. She highlighted the importance of such focused workshops in ensuring that future clinicians are well-equipped with the practical skills necessary for timely interventions.
The workshop received strong institutional backing from Dr. Anup Marar, Director – DMIHER (Off Campus), Dr. Ujwal Gajbe (Dean), Dr. B.R. Singh (Vice Dean), Dr. Vasant Gawande (CMS, SMHRC), and Dr. Pratibha Deshmukh (Director, Anaesthesia).
The event was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Neha Goenka and Dr. Paras Zunke from ISCCM, supported by the organizing team comprising Dr. Adeeba Siddique, Dr. Roshani Manwani, Dr. Varun, Mr. Vivek Bhardwaj, Mr. Abhishek Kumar, and Mr. Yogesh Maske from SEL&SC,DMIHER9DU). Valuable contributions also came from Dr. Anand Hatgaonkar (HoD Radiology) and Dr. Rajasi Sengupta (HoD OBGY), who facilitated ultrasound machines and venue arrangements.
Ms. Aaliya led the team of Mr. Praful Dhabekar, Mr. Vinod Gajbhiye, MCH Managers, Sodexo and the housekeeping team provided seamless execution of the event, even on a holiday.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the institution to continuous medical education and interdisciplinary learning. The enthusiastic participation from various colleges underlines the relevance and growing demand for such practical training modules in postgraduate medical curricula.
