Rajat Toraskar and Vidhi Kumare clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, at the Shivaji Nagar Table Tennis Tournament held at RTMNU’s Table Tennis Hall, which concluded on Sunday.
Rajat put up a commanding performance in the men’s singles final, defeating former multiple-time champion Jayesh Kulkarni in straight sets — 11-7, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8.
In the women’s final, Vidhi overcame Varda Kejgir 4-1 in a well-fought contest. The final scores read 11-8, 11-5, 11-13, 13-11, 11-7.
Vidhi also clinched the Under-17 girls’ title, beating top seed Purvi Kaur Renu in a dramatic comeback. After dropping the first two games 8-11, 7-11, Vidhi rallied to win the next three — 11-6, 13-11, 13-11 — sealing her second title of the tournament.
Purvi, however, secured the Under-15 girls’ crown with a 3-1 win over Vidhi, registering a 11-4, 11-13, 11-7, 11-5 victory.
In the boys’ section, third seed Purab Singh Renu bagged twin titles. He stunned top seed Manas Sharma in the Under-17 final, recovering from a game down to win 11-13, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. He followed it up with a commanding straight-game win over Arnav Manwani — 11-5, 11-5, 11-1, 11-4 — in the Under-19 final.
Karan Kashyap walked away with the Under-15 boys’ title after defeating Manas Sharma in a five-set thriller: 11-5, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-3.
The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by chief guest Deepak Dhote, while MSTTA Secretary Adv Ashutosh Potnis was also present. The tournament was officiated by Chief Referee Deepak Kanetkar, who proposed the vote of thanks.
