A striped tigress spotted roaming with her three cubs in the Harisal area of the Melghat Tiger Project has triggered panic in 10 to 15 nearby villages. Locals have captured videos of the tigress and her cubs, which are now widely circulating on social media, heightening fear among residents.
Several villages, including Chikhli, Kara, Nanduri, Bhiroja, Kesarpur Keli, Chaurakund, Chopan, Khokmar Mangya, Rora, and Tangda—located within the Harisal and Tarubanda ranges of the Melghat Tiger Project—have been impacted. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Gugamal Wildlife Department.
In response to the rising concern, the forest department has installed warning signs and initiated awareness drives to ensure the safety of both the residents and the tigress with her cubs. Despite these efforts, villagers continue to demand stronger and faster protective action, as fear continues to grip the area.
Along with addressing the risk of human-wildlife conflict, officials are also keeping a close watch for any signs of poaching. To ensure the safety of the tigress, her cubs, and other wildlife, forest personnel have intensified night patrols across the Harisal range.
