The driving test track at Nagpur’s Regional Transport Office (RTO) is in a poor state, riddled with potholes and waterlogged due to recent rainfall. The damaged track conditions are creating serious challenges for applicants, leading to a high number of test failures.
According to a media report, over 150 applicants appear daily for driving licence tests at the Nagpur RTO, including both two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers. A dedicated test track has been set up for the purpose, which includes tasks such as making a figure-of-eight, driving on slopes, and performing reverse maneuvers. However, due to the poor condition of the track, candidates are struggling to complete these tasks, leading to increased difficulty during the test.
There is increasing pressure on the RTO administration to urgently repair the driving test track, as drivers and applicants continue to face difficulties. Repairing the track would not only make the testing process smoother but also ensure a fair evaluation of candidates.
For two-wheeler riders, completing the figure-of-eight is one of the most important and challenging parts of the test. Failure to execute it properly results in disqualification. However, due to potholes and stagnant water on the track, many riders are losing control of their vehicles during the maneuver, resulting in a high number of test failures.
During the monsoon, rainwater fills the potholes on the RTO test track, making it hard for drivers to judge their depth and position. This is especially difficult for two-wheeler riders, who are struggling to keep their balance while riding through these hidden potholes, increasing the chances of slipping or falling.
According to test rules, if a rider puts their foot on the ground during the test, it is treated as a failure. Because of the poor condition of the track, many riders are forced to do so just to avoid falling, which leads to their disqualification. Many applicants feel this is unfair, as they are losing their chance to get a licence due to the bad track, not their own mistakes.
