Nagpur and several districts in Vidarbha are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next two days, according to a forecast issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). An ‘orange alert’ has been declared for isolated areas in Nagpur, Amravati, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur districts for Monday and Tuesday, while Bhandara and Gondia have also been placed under the same alert for Monday.
Favourable weather patterns across Vidarbha have prompted the RMC to issue a ‘yellow alert’ for the remaining districts in the region, indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy showers.
The current weather system is being driven by a trough extending from the Arabian Sea through Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand to the Bay of Bengal. This system has resulted in a cyclonic circulation and a low-pressure area, allowing significant moisture to flow into Vidarbha and Central India, the RMC said.
Additionally, a separate cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwest over the next few days, further enhancing the potential for widespread rainfall across Central India.
While an orange alert was also issued for Chandrapur and Gadchiroli on Sunday, both districts recorded only light evening showers, with Chandrapur receiving 2 mm and Gadchiroli 1 mm of rainfall.
Among the Vidarbha districts, Buldhana registered the highest rainfall on Sunday with 21 mm, followed by Yavatmal (18 mm), Gondia (6 mm), Wardha (3 mm), and Washim (2 mm).
