Heavy monsoon showers over the past 24 hours triggered a surge in distress calls across Nagpur, with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Regional Disaster Management Control Room logging 25 emergency calls between 6:00 AM on July 7 and 6:00 AM on July 8.
The highest number of complaints — nine — were related to tree falls, affecting areas like Cotton Market, Siddharth Nagar, Panchsheel Square, and Trimurti Nagar. In two cases, trees collapsed near hospitals, raising safety concerns. Siddharth Nagar reported three incidents, highlighting the vulnerability of its green cover during storms.
Water supply disruptions made up five complaints, from Ekta Colony, Bhamti Road, Sufiya Nagar, Mahal, and Reshimbagh, where residents faced reduced or no water supply. Zonal teams initiated repairs and sent water tankers where needed.
A notable rescue was reported at Ganga Apartment, Siddharth Line, where a woman was accidentally locked inside a bathroom. Emergency teams acted quickly, freeing her safely without injuries.
The control room also received 10 miscellaneous calls, mostly precautionary or minor complaints. Importantly, no fire or house collapse cases were reported during this period.
With more rain expected, the NMC’s response teams remain on high alert, working to ensure public safety and rapid crisis management across the city.
