A deeply distressing incident has shaken Lonsawali village in Wardha district, where a 17-year-old girl ended her life after being unable to secure admission to Class 12 due to financial hardships.
The deceased, identified as Sonia Vasudev Uike, had recently passed her Class 11 examinations in the Commerce stream. According to sources, she had been eagerly waiting for her parents to arrange the admission fees for the next academic year.
Her parents, Vasudev and his wife, are daily wage labourers struggling to make ends meet. Vasudev had reportedly assured Sonia that they would manage her admission after receiving pending wages. However, as the new academic session commenced, Sonia is believed to have grown increasingly disheartened and, in the absence of her family at home, took the extreme step of hanging herself.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and concern. MP Amar Kale visited the grieving family and expressed his sorrow. “It is a deeply tragic case. A student ending her life over lack of funds for education is a grim reflection of our priorities. Instead of excessive spending on other schemes, the government should focus on strengthening the education sector to prevent such heartbreaking incidents,” Kale stated. He also pointed out the irony that the incident occurred in the very district of the Minister of State for Education.
Several local leaders and community members accompanied Kale during his visit, including Manoj Chandurkar, Praful Kuchewar, Sagar Gudhe, Prof Raju Jadhav, Shri Krishna Devasthan President Umakant Jadhav, Vijay Raut, Pankaj Ghodmare (Nationalist Taluka President), Shubham Murkute, Sukhdev Kodape, Chandrashekhar Madavi, Vijay Walke, Khushal Bawane, and Dev Akhude.
