As heavy rains lashed Nagpur through the night and into Wednesday morning, several parts of the city plunged into crisis, with flooded homes, blocked roads, and rescue operations underway.

Early morning, a major tree fall near Alex Hospital had completely blocked the road. Swift response from emergency teams saw the fallen tree cleared, restoring traffic flow by dawn.

However, the worst-hit areas remain under Sakardara zone. In Somwaripeth (COTTON No. 02/67), water gushed into the residence of Nilesh Gawhane, following a severe drain choke. Civic workers have since launched dewatering operations but the situation remains tense as stagnant water continues to rise.
In Mangaldip Nagar, visuals depict flooded streets and stranded locals, highlighting yet again the city’s fragile stormwater management infrastructure.
Meanwhile, a dramatic rescue operation is underway in Narasala, near the cremation ground, where several people were reportedly trapped in rising floodwaters. The Nagpur Fire Department has deployed teams with rescue boats and safety gear, working relentlessly to bring people to safety.
Authorities have appealed to residents in low-lying areas to stay indoors and avoid flooded streets. Emergency helplines have been activated and NMC’s disaster response teams remain on high alert.
With the India Meteorological Department forecasting more rain, concerns are mounting over additional waterlogging and health risks from sewage overflow. Residents are demanding a permanent fix to chronic drainage issues before the city sees more lives and homes pushed to the brink.
