In a landmark tribute to India’s war heroes, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in partnership with Nagpur 2025 and the Ministry of Defense (MoD), will soon build a grand war memorial on Tekdi Road, Sitabuldi, to honour soldiers who fought in the 1962, 1965, 1971, and 1999 wars.
Spread across 29,000 square feet of land provided free of cost by the MoD, the ₹10 crore project will be fully funded by NMC. NGO Nagpur 2025 will serve as consultant at no charge, showcasing a rare public-private collaboration driven by civic vision and patriotic purpose.
The concept was envisioned by architect Soumya Pandey of Nagpur 2025, who pitched the idea to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari. Dr. Chaudhari personally reached out to Major General S. K. Vidyarthi, who ensured defense land was made available for the cause.
Designed to be both inspiring and child-friendly, the memorial will avoid graphic war depictions. “It must honour valour, not violence,” Dr. Chaudhari insisted, also stressing on aesthetics that prevent crowding and ensure visibility from Tekdi Road.
With two MoUs soon to be signed—one between NMC and MoD, and another with Nagpur 2025—the memorial is expected to become a symbolic landmark of Nagpur, connecting generations to the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
Construction is expected to begin once final approvals and designs are completed
